You can also set up heating schedules within the app to change the thermostat temperature throughout the day. In the diagram above, the thermostat is located in the living room. So you could set it to 18°C and also schedule this to change to 20°C between 7pm - 8pm, making it nice and cosy for you in the evening when you settle down in front of the TV. There's no option for zonal control through radiator thermostats either, and the plastic design isn't stylish, but it's worth considering for those that already have an Echo or two. Specify in the app or using the operating button on the device that manual settings on the device itself are no longer possible.

You can set the temperature of each room using the thermostatic radiator valves. However, as seen on the diagram, the valves can't communicate with the smart thermostat or your smartphone, so you will have to change them manually. Many homes already have thermostatic radiator valves (or TRVs for short) on their radiators. They work by detecting the temperature of the room, and turn the radiator on or off depending on whether the room needs heating up or not. Below are the three simplest heating setups. We show you what you can and can't do with them. Thermostat and thermostatic radiator valves Either way, we certainly believe that the convenience and savings a smart thermostat offers make it more than worth it. How do smart thermostats work? You can create zoned heating If you want smart heating where you can control the temperature and whether the heating is on or off in each room, smart radiator valves allow you to do this.Practical: The light ring with multicolored LEDs can be seen from all angles. It indicates actions performed and the status of the thermostat. However, you won't get the 'smarter' functions or complete heating control that's possible with a smart thermostat and smart radiator valve setup.

All the smart radiator valves can communicate with the smart thermostat, meaning you can turn the boiler on and off by changing the settings of any of the heating devices. Out of our three home setups, this gives you the most complete control of your heating.

This isn’t particularly flexible, as you may want to have a room warmer in the evening when there’s no sun, and cooler during the day. It would make more sense if, like rival systems, Bosch let you set a more detailed schedule. All data required for the proper functioning of this product is stored locally in the product itself. When using the app, all data is stored on your mobile device. Only you can view it and change it with your personal access code. However, it's not the most stylish of thermostats on the market, and there's no way to see the room's temperature from the radiator thermostat itself - you'll need to open the app on your smartphone. That said, it's hard to beat if you're on a budget and want complete control over your heating. Breakdown warning: Do you want to be on the safe side? You can also create an "IF room temperature <15° THEN send message" automation. As with any new device or piece of technology that we've been told will improve our lives, some downsides do exist. Firstly, there's the initial cost, though the best smart thermostats in this guide do vary in price, and there's an argument that many will pay for themselves once your heating becomes more energy-efficient. There's also installation which, as we have outlined above, can mean you need to pay for professional installation. How we tested these smart thermostats

Two additional adapters (Danfoss RA and Danfoss RAVL) are included in the scope of delivery; further adapters (M28 and Danfoss RAV) are available as accessories in the online shop Some smart thermostats use AI to adjust your heating and cooling schedule based on how long it takes your home to heat up or cool down. In contrast, others include sensors that automatically switch the heating and cooling system off if they detect an open window or think no one is using the house at the time, saving even more energy. You can set the temperature of your home for each room individually via the Bosch Smart Home app. To do this, go to the home screen in the app and select the room in which you want to set the temperature.

Simple wall mounting by means of enclosed screws and adhesives. No wiring is necessary because four AAA batteries power the unit. Battery lifetime: up to two years.

Unsure about whether a smart thermostat is worth it? It's no surprise, given these are one of the most expensive smart home devices on the market, and they are fiddly to install too, which means many of us will end up employing a professional to install them. Full overview: the current temperature and relative humidity in the room, as well as the status of the heating controller, are shown at a glance. Scenarios are a way of creating routines to control multiple devices at once. There are preprogrammed ones, including Leaving home, which turns off all lights, activates the alarm system and can turn on Simulated Presence mode. Scenarios can be run through the app or via a Bosch wireless switch; there’s no option to run them automatically. The radiator valves are big chunks of plastic that replace your existing valves. Bosch provides adapters in the box for multiple fittings; I had no problem fitting them to my radiators. Limited functionality without a smart thermostat You need a compatible smart thermostat if you want to get everything that a smart radiator valve has to offer, as this will allow your valves to communicate with the boiler to turn it on and off. This connecting device plugs into your broadband modem and allows your smart heating appliances to be controlled by your smartphone app. If you have a regular schedule, you may well benefit from being able to program a heating schedule. The Room Thermostat II and Room Thermostat II 230 V are also convincing thanks to their modern LED display, which clearly and legibly displays all information relevant to room-temperature control. Intuitive operation by turning and pushing the button of the Room Thermostat II and Room Thermostat II 230 V is now additionally supported by visual signals from a multicoloured LED strip. For example, red LEDs indicate that the temperature is being increased, while blue LEDs show that the temperature is being lowered.
